Convergo

Convergo is an interactive installation that bridges the gap between two strangers. It helps strangers conquer the fear of taking the first step of initiating a conversation by encouraging people to interact with each other in a playful and intuitive manner.

As soon as the participant enters the installation their shadow, which represents their inner self, appears on the screen. The shadows initially mirror the users movement but after exploring around with their own shadows for a while, these start to take on their own life and form a pose together, motivating the two strangers to recreate the pose. After a few rounds the users are asked to create their own unique pose. At the end, the users are guided to a photo station on the side, where they receive a printed image of their created pose . They are invited to draw or write on their picture and hang it up onto the net next to all the experiences of the previous users. A digital collage of all poses can be downloaded via QR code, giving the users a memory to hold on to.

With the combination of the digital and analogue approach, users are slowly eased into building up a connection. The shadow breaks the gap between the two strangers. Through recreating and inventing poses, users are brought closer together. They are encouraged to work together, communicate and exchange ideas. The printed photo gives the users a shared experience.

Convergo invites people to step out of their own bubble and to connect with another person through curiosity, movement and a shared experience. It gives people a common ground, helping them to break the ice between each other and spark a conversation.
